News from the Vineyard, February 2019

As we ramp up our New Year at CAMi Vineyards, and, as we look ahead, we take the opportunity to celebrate another year of producing great wine. 2018 proved to be a year of growth. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rated our 2016 CAMi Napa Valley Estate Red Wine 96+ points. We joined the Napa Valley Vintners Association and the Calistoga Grape Growers Association and branched out into new markets. We can now be found on the wine list at the French Laundry and in The K Laz’ tasting room, as well as distributed to a few select premises in Maryland. We participated in our first Premier Napa Valley Wine Auction, as well as Inspire Napa Valley, a charity auction for Alzheimer’s Research.

We welcome my sister, Karin Maurer, to the team this year. Karin worked in the tasting room at Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the 1990’s and has been working as a realtor since. A onetime wine professional, she comes back to the industry from my hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

This month we sat down with John Giannini to taste the components of our 2017 CAMi Napa Valley Estate Wine. 2017 will long be remembered for the horrible fires that wrecked havoc on the Napa Valley.  Our Vineyards experienced an extra hot Calistoga summer, and it caused our grapes to be ready for picking in September.  We were lucky and this first round of tasting showed beautiful aromas and a dark color.  We will meet again this month to make our final blend.

We have a limited amount remaining of our 2014 and 2015 CAMi red wine blends. We only made four barrels of 2015 due to extreme heat, but the result was a truly beautiful wine. We are grateful for strong reviews from Robert Park Wine Advocate on all of our wines.

Please contact Karin at to meet us at one of our favorite restaurants to taste the wine.
